This is half of a stone mould used for making trinkets. It comes from Sippar and dates from 1900 bce or earlier. Mould is 9 cm (3½ in) long and 6 cm (2½ in) wide. The jeweler poured in molten metal, probably lead, and left it to harden. Similar moulds were used to produce silver and gold work.
